History

S&L Consultants was co-founded by Shawn Smalls and Laila Minott in January 2004. It was established to addresses the lack of financial education in grade school, through education, motivation and training workshops. Academic Achievers a subsidiary of S&L Consultants, was developed in 2006 to address the specific academic needs of youth.

Academic Achievers/S&L Consultants is a unparalleled network of educational, employment and training programs. Academic Achievers/S&L Consultants goal is enhance communities through educational programs that comprise of financial literacy, employment training, entrepreneurial education and academic enrichment. Academic Achievers/S&L Consultants’ mission is to support individuals lacking in communication, confidence, knowledge and professional experience through education.

Shawn Smalls and Laila Minott have combined their professional experience in developing and facilitating Academic Achiever/S&L Consultants programs. Shawn Smalls possesses an undergraduate degree from Mercer University in Atlanta, Georgia where he majored in Organization Leadership. He also has a MBA in Global Management from American Intercontinental University. Shawn brings to the company a combination of financial expertise, general management skills and entrepreneurial start-up experience. As a Co-founder , Shawn brings an extensive track record in sales and marketing. He conducts educational and networking seminars to executives in the finance community. He has spoken at conferences advising many executives and entrepreneurs on their strategic operations, fund-raising activities and business development objectives. Shawn began his professional career where he founded a successful network marketing business. Shawn is also a certified Entrepreneur Instructor and is responsible for lectures, workshops and contract negotiations. Shawn has developed several entrepreneurial workshops for youth.

Laila Minott graduated with a B.A. in Social Work from William Paterson University. She has over 10 years of experience in public relations focusing on teaching, counseling, development, and project management. She was a marketing coordinator supervisor for Samsung Electronics which is where she obtained her marketing and product development experience. Laila then moved on to non-profit organizations where she started teaching and creating curriculums. Laila became a public advocate and provided organizational counseling. Laila utilizes her public relations skills to draw analysis on the customers she is serving. Laila also became proficient in grant writing and grant research. Laila has also co-produced an employment show entitled Job Cast for a New Jersey Public Access television station. Many of her shows where awarded with great success for its subject matter and ability to connect with the community.

As the director of operations and one of the founders of S&L Consultants, Laila specializes in proposal/grant writing and grant research. She has expertise in writing government, foundation, and corporate grant proposals. She brings a unique perspective to fundraising for her clients and assessing their growth. Laila possess skills and entrepreneurial start-up experience which she uses in project development.
